Structured breath patterns you can use anywhere
Controlled breathing is one of the most accessible pause activities. The following patterns are commonly described in public lifestyle education materials and can be practiced seated or standing. They are not presented as medical techniques.
- Box breathing (4-4-4-4): Inhale for four counts, hold for four, exhale for four, hold for four. Repeat three to five cycles.
- Extended exhale (4-7): Inhale for four counts, exhale for seven. Some people use this pattern as a personal pacing exercise between tasks.
- Natural rhythm: Simply notice your breath without changing it for sixty seconds. A gentle awareness exercise between tasks.
